Michael Irving
Managing director and Founder
Michael begun his
career in 1959 as an apprentice mechanic working at a Ford main
dealer in west Hampstead, London. He was almost immediately looking
for more of a challenge and soon moved on to race and rally
preparation in Gunter Grove, Chelsea. Then in 1963 an opportunity
presented its self in Maserati’s service department. Gaining
valuable experience on the workshop floor he decided at the end
of1966 to start his own business and took over the old workshop
premises of Mercedes Benz agent Taylor & Crawley in Grosvenor
crescent mews, Belgravia.
The business soon
grew from just Michael and one other ex Maserati mechanic to twenty
two staff members and two car show rooms, all still based in
Grosvenor crescent mews. In 1968 Michael took on Mercedes Benz, BMW
and Alfa Romeo franchises and also campaigned a BMW 2002 Alpina in
the British national rally championships. This was the golden era for
Michael and his growing business.
Being based in
Belgravia, his clientele consisted of major film stars/pop singers.
Greek shipping tycoons as well as many of the top UK companies.
Sadly he was
forced to move in 1988 due to the redevelopment of the St Georges
hospital site which is now The Lanesborough Hotel.
The business was
relocated to its present position in north Kensington. Michael says
he was very lucky that most of his clients followed him and to this
day still has original clients and their families from the 1960s.
Stuart Aston
Director and
Head mechanic
Stuart
joined the company in 1985 as an apprentice mechanic. Having come
fresh from Wandsworth Boys College after completing three years in
the motor vehicle technology department, he was eager to work on
prestige cars in Belgravia. Over the years he has acquired many
skills from courses at Bosch head quarters in Denham, Sun air
conditioning in Kings Lynn, but most importantly 25 years workshop
experience - experience that has helped countless other garages
including Jack Barclays to repair complex electrical and mechanical
faults. He is one of very few people outside of the Mercedes dealer
network to have experience with Bosch and Mercedes Benz factory Star
diagnostic computer equipment. Stuart became a director of the
company in 2005 and plans to carry on sharing his experience with the
customers and workshop staff for many years to come.
Together Michael
and Stuart have not only run a successful service and repair garage
but have rebuilt and restored many cars to concourse condition,
including 1950’s Mercedes 300sl Roadsters and Lamborghini Miuras to
name but a few.
When you visit
the workshop you will be left feeling completely confident that you
have found the right place to have your car repaired. From an oil
change service to a complete restoration and engine rebuild they will
look after your car as if it were their own.
